Taxi drivers in Plymouth have been expressing their anger after a number of cab operators were hit with parking fines while dropping off customers.
Taxi drivers from AA Taxis told the Plymouth Herald that the introduction of a new camera car by the local council has resulted in several cabbies receiving parking tickets in the post – one driver was even sent two fines on the same day.
Taxi Driver Claims
The taxi drivers claim they are being fined unfairly for stopping to drop off passengers. They are calling for allowances to be made for taxis that are only pulling over briefly to let elderly or disabled passengers out.
However, a city council official told the Herald that penalties are only being issued in cases where the law is clearly broken.
Earlier this month, Manchester Evening News reported that cabbies in Rossendale are considering strike action due to similar issues regarding penalty points systems which they consider to be petty.
