Cabbie, Jimmy Smart of Dundee sees himself as an entertainer as well as taxi driver as he wows his passengers during their journey in his cab. His favourite act to mimic is top crooner Michael Bublé but never did he think the star himself would want to meet him.
Jimmy’s customer, June Pickett, commented: “I got into Jimmy’s taxi one night and I heard a voice singing. I jokingly asked if it was him singing and he said no, it was Michael Bublé but he could sing too. He then launched into a song. It was the best taxi ride ever.”
The 53-year-old is now better known as Jimmy Bublé after videos of him singing in his cab went viral last year. When Michael Bublé himself watched the video he immediately tried to contact Jimmy and offered him front row seats at his gig at the Newcastle Metro Arena.
The Best Was Yet To Come
Jimmy was left speechless when he found out Michael had thought to gift him the tickets but the surprises didn’t stop there.
On the night of the show, in front of 11,000 screaming fans, Michael invited Jimmy up onto the stage for a duet.
Jimmy said: “Towards the end, the audience were requesting a Christmas song. His band started the intro to Let It Snow and he came down to me and asked me to join him. I just started to sing with him. I still can’t believe it, it was the biggest thrill of my life.
“I didn’t get a chance to thank him after the show as he had to dash away for his X Factor performance but I will never forget that night.”
The Show Must Go On
Jimmy has returned to Dundee to spread the story of his experience and continues to serenade his customers.
He added: “I like to sing Christmas songs to my fares and now I’m able to say ‘Would you like to hear Let It Snow? I was on stage recently signing it with Michael Bublé’.”
