Safe Taxi Scheme Launches in Hull

A taxi firm in Hull has launched an innovative scheme to keep local students safe when they’re on a night out. 966 Cars has begun offering students a free taxi home in a bid to keep them safe and out of trouble.

The scheme will allow students with no money to call the company and explain their situation to the operator. Their call will then be prioritised and the taxi will arrive as soon as possible. Students will have to provide their student ID, which will be kept by the driver. The following day the students can visit the firm’s office, pay the fare and pick up their student card.

“I think it will help the students because many students tend to go out and find themselves needing a taxi at the end of the night.”

Getting Home Safely

Mark Ward, owner of 966 Cars, decided to set up the scheme to try and help the growing number of students in the area.  With around 16,000 people studying at the University of Hull, the city is busy every night of the week and offers cabbies plenty of work.

He said: “I think it will help the students because many students tend to go out and find themselves needing a taxi at the end of the night. They’re hoping that they can get one on demand and we’re going to make them a priority and get them home safely.”
