Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses to an attack on a private hire driver in St Helens to come forward with information.
Private Hire Robbery
On the 22nd of December, just days before Christmas, the driver parked his car on Bridge Street opposite the Nelson pub to go to a local shop. When the driver – who has remained anonymous – returned to his vehicle a man jumped into the passenger seat, armed with a knife, and demanded to be taken to Halewood.
The terrified driver did as he was told and on arrival at the Eagle and Child pub on Church Road, the man held the knife to the driver and demanded money.

“Thankfully the taxi driver was not hurt but understandably was left badly shaken by his ordeal.”
Police are treating the investigation as armed robbery and detectives have release a CCTV image of the man they believe to be the offender. He is described as white, in his mid-30s, with white hair and of a stocky build.
Detective Constable Roy Waller said: “Thankfully the taxi driver was not hurt but understandably was left badly shaken by his ordeal.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Nelson pub in St Helens or the Eagle and Child pub in Halewood who may have seen anyone matching this description to come forward and assist us with our enquiries.”
