A Mansfield taxi driver is grateful for the support he’s received from regular customers and fellow colleagues after being subjected to a horrifying ordeal.
The driver was held at knife-point by robbers who demanded he hand over all the cash earned from that day.
Nazrul Meah has been overwhelmed with the support and thanked those who’ve helped raise money for his stolen takings.
Huge Support
Nazrul co-owns taxi firm, Delta and NCars, and had taken a customer from the Quaker taxi rank in Mansfield to Forest Town late evening on December 28th.
On arrival at Forest Town, Nazrul was confronted by a passenger armed with a knife who then proceeded to “threatened to kill” him if he didn’t hand over the money.
Nazrul said: “When I picked him up from Mansfield he seemed very agitated in the back of the taxi and didn’t say very much.
“It wasn’t until we got to Forest Town that he pulled out the knife to demand money. It was very scary and I did what he said.
“I managed to get a good look at him and remembered what he looked like so called the police.”
Great Generosity
“I’m going to donate most of the money to charity. I haven’t decided which one yet.”
Over £100 was stolen from Nazrul. However, he’s incredibly thankful to his customers and colleagues for their generosity. They managed to raise twice the amount he’d usually earn in a day.
He’s thanked those who helped raise the money and said he wants to give some of it to charity. He said: “When my regulars heard what happened they were so supportive and a lot of them offered to give me money.
“They kindly donated above the amount stolen. However, taxi drivers also had a collection amongst themselves which has contributed even more. I’m going to donate most of the money to charity. I haven’t decided which one yet.”
