Transport for London (TfL) is providing London taxi drivers with PPE including face masks and hand sanitiser across the city, welcome support for those who continue to work with the risk of coronavirus transmission. Additionally, it’s heartwarming to hear that London cabbies are keeping the Christmas magic alive by offering taxi tours around the city to allow passengers to see the Christmas lights.

With the English lockdown rules changing from a full lockdown to a tiered system and more and more customers beginning to travel by taxi the transport authority Transport for London (TfL) have provided a vital lifeline to many cabbies in the area. This week they are offering free face masks and hand gel to London taxi drivers from sites across the capital. They have invested in 1.5 million face masks and 30,000 bottles of hand sanitiser to distribute. This essential support will help the taxi trade at this time of year after what has been a difficult few months.
The masks are available from locations across the city in car parks and around the Underground stations and are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. TfL has also published a short video to educate taxi drivers on how to stay safe during the pandemic and keep their vehicles clean after every journey. Drivers are encouraged to display a sticker advising passengers that they are ‘COVID prepared’.

TfL’s director of licensing, regulation and charging, Helen Chapman said: “We know that the pandemic has been tough for taxi and private hire drivers, which is why we want to do all we can to help them prosper as restrictions are eased. We are providing this additional support to help boost the industry in the coming weeks, reassuring customers that vehicles are as safe and clean as they possibly can be. We will continue to provide up-to-date advice and guidance for drivers on how to keep themselves safe and what support is available for them in these difficult times.”
