The Yorkshire borough of Kirklees is one of the latest taxi licensing authorities to bring in tougher driving tests for would-be taxi drivers.
Anyone wanting to become a cabbie in and around Huddersfield will first have to pass a special assessment delivered by the Driving Standards Agency.
Catherine Walter, Licensing Manager for Kirklees Council, explained: “The opportunity to participate in the Taxi and Private Hire Car Driver Assessment Scheme is an excellent way to ensure that licensed taxi drivers are of a consistently high standard.”
