A Scottish taxi company is now offering strapped for cash students the chance to pay their fare with an ID card.
Tele Taxis and Dundee University have launched a scheme to help stranded students, who have no money left after a boozy night out.
Safe Taxi Scheme
The Safe Taxis scheme will let students take hackney taxis home, even if they don’t have any money. Instead they can show a valid student card and pay the bill the following day.
Taxi drivers take note of the student matriculation number and charge the students association, where students can then settle their bill whilst battling a hangover.
The scheme has already proved a success in England, after being rolled out at universities in Manchester, Sheffield and Southampton.
Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon University have also launched a similar scheme.

Tim Hustler, DUSA President said: “The Safe Taxi scheme has been hugely successful in a number of other cities and I am delighted to be able to make it a reality in Dundee.
“This new scheme will give both students and drivers peace of mind. This plays into DUSA’s role in duty of care, making sure our members are getting home safe.
“Dundee is a great city and DUSA contributes heavily to the night life. From time to time students get caught out and end up walking home on their own, leaving themselves in a vulnerable position.
