We all know Cabbies have fabulous common sense, honed through years of experience coping with all manner of people and situations.
But now hackney taxi drivers in Lincolnshire will also have to prove they’re smart-looking as well as smart-thinking.
North East Lincolnshire Council has given the go-ahead to new compulsory qualifications and a dress code for taxi drivers.
Working Group
The plans came out of a taxi working group set up over fears that too many new cabbies were entering the taxi trade. The idea is that, by raising the bar for new applicants, demand will be limited to those who are really serious about entering the taxi trade and providing a good quality service.
All new taxi driver applicants should have a Level Two BTEC Award in Transporting Passengers by Taxi and Private Hire. Meanwhile, a taxi driver dress code banning casual items like T-shirts with logos, baseball caps and tracksuits will be put in place.
