Glaswegian taxi drivers are concerned that their vehicles are at risk of serious damage as a result of the considerable amount of potholes blighting the city’s roads.
A number of taxi services operators have reported that the Scottish city is one of the worst-affected areas in the country in terms of potholes. Hope Street, in the city centre, is reported as being one particularly badly-hit location.
Taxi drivers have become so incensed by damage to their cabs that they have now publicised their concerns through the local media. They say that the size of many potholes represents a hazard but that often drivers have no choice but to pass over these damaged roads. Taxi then drivers face considerable repair bills for their vehicles – not to mention those who have used taxis frequently and suffered the rough ride!
Cabbie Eddy Fitzsimmons told the Glasgow Evening Times that road imperfections remain a pressing issue, despite constant resurfacing work, adding that the issue is particularly problematic at night when visibility is poor.
