A kind hearted cabbie from Crawley has taken it upon himself to provide a free taxi service between 11am and 1pm to anyone over the age of 70 or anyone with a disability.
25-year-old, Jamie Simpson, says the idea came to him after his grandmother, Marylin, passed away. He said: “My gran was a member of Bewbush Action Group.
“She helped put in the wooden animals on Bewbush Drive, was part of The Neighbourhood Watch and volunteered at Waterfield School helping children to read.
“She brought me up and was always good to others. She sadly passed away last year which made me reflect on my own life and how I can help others.
“It’s about listening to her advice and following in her footsteps.”
Giving Something Back
Jamie who owns his own wheelchair accessible taxi company, Wheelchair Friendly Taxis in Crawley, said that he’s not doing it in the hope for something in return but says he’s purely doing it to give something back to the community.
He jested that if he didn’t do something like this then he would only be wasting his time reading Boxing News and Esquire.
“I have a couple of spare hours on Friday afternoons as I wait for my contract work, sometimes I wait up to four hours in the Crawley area and therefore I’m sat at home twiddling my thumbs.
“I would see elderly or disabled people struggling to get to bus stops and the local shops and I thought maybe I could pick them up.
“I want to help the people who struggle and find it hard to get to bus stops.”
