Wolverhampton City Council has announced that hackney taxi tariffs are set to rise for the first time in four years.
Council bosses and taxi officials agreed to increase fares by between 4% and 8%, depending on the length of journey.

The extra money will help hackney taxi drivers meet higher fuel costs and brings Wolverhampton into line with other cities.
A council committee meeting will be held over the next few weeks to ratify the new fares, which will add 32p to one-mile journeys, 22p to two-mile journeys and 74p to journeys of 10-miles.
Taxi Association
Wolverhampton Taxi Owners Association is supporting the move, having previously held back in view of the recession.
Association spokesman, Parminder Mekhon, explained: “We were offered a rise last year but we refused it because we felt it wasn’t the right time due to the economic situation.
