The vehicle must be eight years or older to qualify for the loan. The Trust is able to provide an interest free loan of up to £100K for qualifying customers. This measure is part of a wider Government initiative to try and reduce carbon emissions by 80% before 2050 and tackle climate change. The Scottish Government is aiming to implement Low Emission Zones in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee by 2020 which would see older vehicles being banned from entering the city centres.

The purpose of the programme is to enable drivers of older hackney taxis to upgrade to a new model complying to the Euro 6 emissions standard.

Efficient New Taxi

Upgrading from an older cab will have positive benefits for any driver or operator who take up the offer. The latest Euro 6 compliant diesels have been designed to greatly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and soot particles. These innovations that have brought the latest generation diesels much cleaner and more efficient. In addition, the EU6 diesels have more power and torque than their predecessors, allowing you to drive a vehicle with better performance and lower running costs. Drivers and operators are advised to act now to avoid disappointment, as there are a limited number of loans available. Full terms and conditions are available on the Energy Saving Trust website.
