Durham County Council is considering some big changes to its taxi licensing policy and local cabbies have the chance to have their say.
The council’s inviting opinions on:
• Taxi zoning – which areas different taxis can operate in
• Taxi quantity regulation – the number of taxis allowed to operate in a zone
• Taxi colour policy – whether taxis should be a specific colour
These changes focus on issues such as taxi safety, including additional driver checks and tinted windows, as well as the inclusion of a taxi users’ complaints process.
All of these subjects are of real importance to Durham’s taxi drivers, so they’re being encouraged to give their opinion.
Specifically, the council’s after the views of anyone involved in, or who may be affected by, any element of taxi and private hire licensing. As well as local cabbies, that includes members of the public, local businesses and anyone else that wants to express their opinion by taking part in an online survey that’s open until midnight on Sunday, 12 September 2010.
