Kensington & Chelsea Metropolitan Police has released an appeal for the offenders of an attack on a cabbie to hand themselves in or for any witnesses to the assault to come forward with information.
The Brutal Attack
The 62-year-old taxi driver, who hasn’t been named, unknowingly picked up his attackers at Brompton Square in the early hours of the 26th January.
The male and female in their early 20s took the taxi direct to Addison Gardens, Kensington, where they paid their £20 fare. It’s then that the cabbie noticed one of them had been sick in the back of his taxi.
When he suggested that the pair cleans up the mess or pays a further £45 to fund a professional cleaning service he was brutally attacked until unconscious.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “The cab driver has no recollection of what happened after requesting the couple to clean up but when he regained consciousness he was badly injured and his clothing was covered in blood.
“He managed to drive home, where his son took him to hospital for treatment. He had sustained multiple fractures around his eye socket.”
Appeal for Information
Six months after his attack, the cab driver is finally returning to his job and police detectives are determined to find the offenders.
Detective Constable, Simon Jewell, said: “The victim’s injuries are consistent with having been repeatedly kicked or punched in the head. This would appear to be a vicious attack on a 62-year-old man who has only recently been able to return to work.
“We’ve released a photo of the cab driver in hospital in the hope it will encourage people to come forward with information.
“We’re appealing for anyone who can help us to identify the couple, a white man and woman in their early 20s, who caught the cab in the early hours on January 26.
“We’d particularly like to speak to the residents of Lower Addison Gardens and Addison Gardens who may have heard noise at approximately 2.30am or may even have witnessed the assault.”
