Big-hearted cabbie, David Leonard, from Barnsley has been told that he isn’t allowed to wear a fake white beard to finish off his Father Christmas outfit because it won’t match the photo on his ID card.
The taxi driver of 20 years has been left bewildered by the council’s decision to prohibit him wearing a fake beard to raise money for the local hospice where his mum passed away.
David commented: “There are strict rules in place and I understand why there has to be but the one thing I thought they would allow was a Santa beard. I’ll have to grow my own, which isn’t as good because it will be dark.”
The father of three can’t be missed on the streets of Barnsley as his cab glows bright with fairy lights; he has also decorated the cab with baubles, garlands, reindeer and snowmen. So far, his efforts have raised £765 but he’s hoping to hit £2,500 by Christmas.
Council Concerns Over Public Safety
Councillors have said that while they would encourage acts of kindness such as those being carried out by Dave, they need to keep public safety front of mind.
Councillor Roy Miller said: “Barnsley Council fully supports Mr Leonard in his fundraising efforts and congratulates him on the amount of money he has
