Cabbies from Winsford and Northwich have finally won their battle to increase taxi fares.
In April 2009 Vale Royal Borough Council, which covers the Cheshire towns of Winsford and Northwich, was incorporated into Cheshire West and Chester Council. Hackney taxi drivers in Winsford and Northwich have since fought for the right to increase their taxi fares as they have seen a noticeable rise in costs under the new council.
Cabbies Join Forces
Five taxi drivers from Winsford and Northwich joined forces in a bid to increase their taxi fares, making a formal application to Cheshire West and Chester Council. Their request includes a proposed increase of daytime fares from £2.30 to £3, evening fares from £3.45 to £4.00 and for the night rate start time to be brought forward from 11.30am to 10.30pm.
The new Council has now considered the application and recently approved the increase. Taxi operators and drivers are delighted with the Council’s response and explain that the fare increase was necessary as they have seen significant cost increases since the takeover and fares in the area have not seen an increase since 2008. The new taxi fares will be put in place over the next two months.
