Cabbies Continue Supporting Local Initiatives

At Cab Direct, we offer an affordable range of taxis for sale to suit hackney or private hire. We have been proud to support the taxi trade with exclusive deals for over 25 years and this is of greater importance to us than ever during the current crisis. We’re pleased to hear that despite the taxi trade having been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic, drivers are still keeping positive and taking part in charitable events.

London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children

London cabbies have been running the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children (LTDCC) charity for over 92 years. The charity is proud to support disadvantaged children and is involved in many fundraising appeals raising money for equipment to help out.  The charity is well known for holding special events such as Christmas parties and trips to the seaside using their wheelchair accessible taxis but due to the current restrictions, they had to find something different to do this year.

This time they turned their skills to help disadvantaged children in getting back to school. They used their black cabs to distribute essential stationery supplies, in a brightly coloured backpack, to special needs schools across London and the South East. With social distancing rules in place including pupils not able to share equipment, this has been welcomed in many of the schools they’ve visited.

A representative from one of the schools explained how grateful they are and said: “Thank you so much for the school starter sets, the children were so excited to receive them.  You are all diamonds and we are always so grateful for the help and support the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children gives us. We can’t wait ‘til safer times allow us to see each other again.”

Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing Fund

In Liverpool, hackney taxi drivers were delighted their annual charity outing was able to go ahead when lockdown rules were eased in July. Formed in 1985 by a group of taxi drivers they have been supporting the needs of children in care in the Merseyside area for 35 years. Following social distancing guidelines, they managed to drive local kids from children’s care homes and staff members to Southport for the day.  A representative from the charity reported ” I am pleased to announce the 35th Annual outing for children in care did get the green light to go ahead and our annual trip to Southport Pleasureland took place on Wed 29th July 2020Despite having to operate within very stringent COVID-19 GUIDELINES, a great day was had by all for the 35th Consecutive year.”

Across the country there are various other fundraising events held and ran by cabbies, such as the renowned Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund who have been helping underprivileged kids for over 74 years. Despite having to cancel their annual excursion this year, the event was taken online.

At Cab Direct, part of the Allied Vehicles Group, we are proud to support several local charities and it is great to see new initiatives being embarked on to ensure these charitable efforts can be continued despite the current restrictions. If you have any fundraising stories you would like to share, we’d love to hear from you!
