A hackney taxi driver in Sunderland has entered a competition to be crowned “Sunderland’s Biggest Loser” in a year-long weight loss contest.
“Even my shoes feel bigger.”
53 year old, Phil Dempster, has been chosen as a finalist in the competition which has been organised by Fitness 2000 gym in Roker.
Since his weight loss journey began in March, Phil has dropped an impressive 2 stone 6 pounds which brings his weight down to 16 stone 3 pounds. Through a mixture of healthy eating and fitness classes Phil will continue to shrink his waistline.
Phil commented: “I saw an article looking for entrants for the contest in the Echo and from that point on, I decided to change my life.
“Friends have really noticed the difference in my appearance and I’ve definitely noticed how much looser my clothing is, even my shoes feel bigger.”

Phil’s colleagues at Station Taxis are in full support of his goal and are helping him raise money for MacMillan Nurses.

The Prize
A review will be taken at the end of the year and the contestant with the biggest body changes will win £1,000 cash, a free gym membership as well as a makeover and a photoshoot.
