Autumn is an essential time of year for car maintenance and this is more important to consider when your taxi is your livelihood!
Here are some of our top tips to take care of your cab.
Check your Tyres
Check your tyre pressure and tread. The legal minimum is 1.6mm but the AA recommend 3mm tread for the winter so check your tyres now before the cold weather sets in.
Clear your Windscreen
Keep your windscreen clean and clear to prevent glare when the sun is low in the sky. Remember to slow down if you do get blinded by the sun and be aware that other drivers around you may also be affected.
Now is the time to fix any scratches or chips; it’s cheaper to fix them now before you have to replace the whole windscreen if it cracks.
Check your Wipers
Check your wiper blades, as this is the time of year that they’ll be used the most. Simply wipe them with a soft clean cloth and replace them when required.
Wipers tend to last approximately two years.
Top-up your Fluids
Remember to also keep your washer fluid reservoir topped up. You may also want to check your other fluids, such as your brake fluid levels engine oil or antifreeze. If you are not confident doing it yourself, speak to a mechanic or visit a local garage.
Check your Battery
Check the top of your battery is clean and dry and there’s no sign of corrosion. If it’s more than five years old, you might want to consider changing it.
You might want to keep jump leads in your car to restart your battery if you get any problems.
Always Keep an Emergency Car Kit
A basic roadside emergency kit should include some of the following items:
Torch and batteries.
You can buy ready-made kits online.
Clean your Lights
Give your lights a good clean! The newer LEDs don’t generate enough heat to evaporate any water.
Also check if any bulbs need replacing.
