A Burton taxi driver has been hailed as a hero after he took decisive action when a teenage boy stopped breathing after suffering a fit in his cab. Ali Raza of iCars is the reluctant hero taxi driver who believed that his actions were just part of doing his job. Mr Raza also showed kindness by not accepting a fare from the teenager.
Dramatic Change in Circumstances
Mr Raza had picked up the 17 year old boy in Burton and was ready to take him home to Newhall, when suddenly the boy stopped breathing and struggled to move as the fit took hold. When the teenager’s predicament became clear, Mr Raza stopped the cab, released the boy’s seatbelt and dialled 999. The operator was able to guide Mr Raza to ensure that the boy was looked after. After 15 minutes, the boy’s breathing started to return to normal. The boy’s family confirmed that he suffered from epilepsy and expressed their gratitude to the taxi driver for his care and attention in their son’s moment of need.

Importance of Training Courses
Director of iCars, Qasim Mohammed believes in sending his drivers on additional training courses in order that they can deal with any major incident that can occur in the course of a shift. The decisive actions of Mr Raza shows that the additional training approach has been beneficial and sets an example to other taxi companies.
