Cabbies can usually be relied upon for a tale or two. But London cabbie, Iain Coombes, found himself with more than the latest football scores or taxi sales to talk about after he picked up a heavily pregnant customer – who went on to deliver her baby in the back of his black cab.
The taxi driver received a call to collect 37 year old Ayse Sabuncu and her fiancé Matthew Scutt, 32, for what he expected would be an ordinary run.
Incredibly, however, the cabbie turned midwife when the baby boy made an appearance just after he pulled up outside Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
Black Cab Surprise
They arrived with seconds to spare and Mr Scutt, a software consultant, rushed in to get help. By the time he returned to his black cab with doctors, the baby boy was lying in his mother’s arms. Emre Arthur Scutt was born a week early and weighed 6lb 7oz.
Mr Coombes – a former accountant – commented: “I’ve had many experiences as a London cabbie but nothing like this. I’m just glad everything went OK.”
