Glasgow Taxis, the company which administers the famous Glasgow black cabs, has published details of items left behind in 2010.
The amazing list of ‘unwanted gifts’ ranges from obvious items such as mobile phones, keys and wallets to the positively bizarre, including several televisions, a sombrero, a giant tennis racket and, unbelievably, a false leg.

Danny Ryan, acting chairman of Glasgow Taxis, commented: “It’s hard to believe that someone could leave a television behind in a taxi, but these things do happen when people are distracted.
“Of course, there are the hundreds and hundreds of wallets, purses and mobile phones which everyone knows are a nuisance to lose at the best of times.”
Danny continued: “The serious message here is that while Glasgow Taxis makes every effort to reunite passengers with their belongings – and is often remarkably successful in doing do – we are urging black cab customers to always check and check again when leaving our vehicles.”
Taxi Advice
Taxi drivers do their best to reunite lost items with their owners, but in many cases they have no option but to hand them in to the police. Chief Inspector George Nedley, Crime Prevention Officer, Strathclyde Police, had this message for taxi passengers.
“Look after all your possessions, make sure you keep yourself and all your stuff safe. Think about the amount of personal possessions you actually need to take with you. If you don’t need it, leave it in the house.”
