Auris Touring Hybrid – Smart Inside and Out

When your car is your workhorse and you’re lucky enough to be a taxi driver in the beautiful surroundings of Northumberland National Park, you’ll want a car that’s not only a joy to drive but that is economical and kind to the environment too.

That’s where Toyota’s Auris Touring Hybrid comes into play. We caught up with Northumbrian taxi driver, Ronnie Ingledew, to see how he’s been getting on with his second Auris from Cab Direct.

Ronnie commented: “I returned to taxiing around four years ago having been away from it for 15 years.   I work both in and around Hexham and up as far as Kielder. For me, it was a no brainer. I had my first Auris for three years and I can honestly say that I never had any problems with it – it was always completely reliable and just as important, it’s very economical to run because it’s a hybrid.”

Smooth and Reliable

“It looks smart both inside and out. I went for the Business Edition model and couldn’t be happier with it.”

Built with world-leading hybrid technology under the bonnet, Toyota’s 1.8 VVTi automatic engine will return up to an impressive 80.7mpg on the combined cycle. Providing a smooth transmission between petrol and hybrid mode, you’ll barely notice the change.

Ronnie said: “The energy monitor on the dashboard is always a good talking point for customers – it’s still very much new and innovative technology so they tend to be fascinated and want to know more. I also get plenty of positive comments about the comfort and quietness of the car.”

It Looks as Good as It Feels

Not only does the Auris perform well on the road, but it also looks the part too. With its eye-catching, sleek exterior and well-thought-out driver’s compartment, you’re guaranteed to be impressed. The centre console sits at the perfect height to ensure maximum comfort and with a range of models available, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to standard features. The entry-level Active model comes complete with 15” alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic air conditioning and push-start button as standard. Take a step up to the popular Icon model and you’ll benefit from a reverse parking camera, DAB radio, 7” touchscreen and leather steering wheel. There are a further three models in the line-up each adding extra spec.

Ronnie added: “It looks smart both inside and out. I went for the Business Edition model and couldn’t be happier with it. It has a high standard multi-media unit with an excellent sound system and the in-built sat nav is a real plus. I’m sure the heated seats will be a welcomed bonus in the winter months too.”

Not forgetting the all-important boot capacity, the Auris Touring offers a whopping 649 litres worth of valuable luggage space.   Ronnie continued: “I really don’t have to worry about whether I can cater for a fare or not due to the large boot. It’s huge – I’ve not had to turn down a job yet.”

Recommendation

When asked if he would recommend the Auris Touring to other drivers, Ronnie said: “Yes, I definitely would – it’s an extremely comfortable, reliable car and it hasn’t put a foot wrong. I’ve got nothing negative to report on it whatsoever.”

Similarly, Ronnie would recommend Cab Direct too, he said: “This was my third purchase from Cab Direct.   I’ve always found them to be extremely helpful. They found me a great finance deal, plus the team is so efficient.   All my purchases have gone through quickly and easily.”
