Dave Meers, of Avenue Taxis in Ipswich, got a whole lot more than he bargained for when he won the Cab Direct grand prize draw at the Private Hire & Taxi Exhibition in Telford, near Birmingham, earning himself a brand new Peugeot Station Wagon taxi.
Dave and three of his partners headed West for the show to check out a variety of new vehicles for the coming months. After a good look round they decided to head for home, with one eye on Ipswich’s play-off semi-final against West Ham that evening.
It was then that Cab Direct’s Wilf Constantine rang Dave with the news that he’d won the Cab Direct prize draw to win a brand new Peugeot Station Wagon taxi.
“I’m not normally not one for competitions,” says Dave. “I’ve never won anything worth shouting about but since I was at the show I decided to give the Cab Direct prize draw a go anyway.
“Knowing my luck, I never gave it another thought – then Wilf from Cab Direct called!! I’d been speaking to him earlier in the day and at first I was convinced he must be winding me up.
Eventually Dave was convinced that he really was the lucky winner and about-turned, back to Telford, to claim his prize.
“It’s just amazing”, adds Dave. “It’s a brilliant, brand-new vehicle and I just can’t believe that I’ve really won such a fantastic prize.”
Dave’s card was selected from thousands of entries by show organiser Liza Lipson, while Cab Direct Managing Director Gavin Gillies was on hand to meet Dave and confirm the good news.
“The taxi business is our business,” says Gavin. “That’s why I’m so delighted when we can give something back like this.
“Once he got over the initial shock Dave was really over the moon and I’m sure he’ll enjoy many thousands of happy miles in his new vehicle.”
