This summer, Cab Direct was delighted to sponsor Dave Neal, a taxi cab driver from Hinckley, near Coventry, who undertook an epic task in support of three fantastic UK charities.

Cab Coastal Challenge – Dave Did It!

Back in July, Dave swapped his cab for a Ford 3000 tractor in his bid to travel the entire coast of Britain.  He completed his mission in exactly six weeks and is the first person ever to do it.

In all, Dave covered 5,740 miles at an average of 22 mph.  Dave was supported along the way by two friends who followed him on route in a motor home stocked with everything he needed.

Dave remained cheerful and upbeat throughout the six weeks, even through some terrible weather conditions.  He had intended to collect at all the coastal beaches up and down the country but due to the typical British weather, many beaches were largely deserted!

He did however meet countless friendly Brits during his voyage – many of whom donated money to his cause. Farmers donated fuel along the way too!

Raising Funds and Awareness

In total Dave raised £2,000 for the three UK charities – a little less than he had hoped for initially, but a respectable sum nonetheless!

Dave told Cab Direct that he thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and is hoping to do a similar trip around the UK every two years to raise funds and awareness for UK charities.

This isn’t the first time the cabbie, a farmer’s son, has taken to the road in a tractor to raise money.  In 2008 he drove from John O’Groats to Land’s End covering a massive 1,163 miles in 14 days to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Association – a charity which is close to his heart.

Dave has raised awareness of these charities throughout the UK – and no doubt will continue to do so in the years to come.  Here at Cab Direct, we are extremely proud of supporting Dave’s outstanding achievements.
