When asked where his passion for America came from Beresford Mandley, from Minehead in Somerset,  is passionate in his response.

‘My fascination with all things American began in 1986 when my aunt and uncle took me to Cincinnati on holiday.  My next trip to the US in ’92 included a visit to Las Vegas.  Watching the hotel valets whistling for limos to transport guests to the casinos sealed my interest and I even joined in with them!’

Two years ago 28 year-old Beresford imported an American-built Ford Lincoln stretch limousine, with the help of the National Limousine Association and 12 months later finished runner-up in the Chauffeur of the Year competition.  Beresford felt that the perfect business to run alongside LimoExpress-UK would be a taxi company.

‘I wanted to get into cabbing as well but the company had to have an American theme.  After I first spoke to Cab Direct I knew the Peugeot E7 was the perfect vehicle to help get my dream off the ground.

‘Calls to New York allowed me to acquire the exact yellow paint code to go with the Big Apple taxi’s famous black and white chequered design.’

Of the four E7 models available Beresford decided to go for the top of the range XS.

Beresford continues: ‘At Yellow Cabs me and my mother Wendy run a professional operation with a particular focus on excellent customer service.  That’s why I wanted the best taxi currently available which is the E7 XS.

‘With Satellite navigation, twin electric side steps, the EasyGlide under-floor ramp and ABS all as standard there’s really nothing else on the market that can compare.’

Talking Point

Since taking delivery of their first taxi Yellow Cabs have become a real talking point in the Somerset area, as Beresford explains.

‘When we first hit the rank in Minehead all the other cabbies came out one by one to have a look at the new kid on the block. They thought the taxi looked great and were highly impressed with the modern features that come with the vehicle.

‘As time has passed they chat away to me on a regular basis and are amazed at how good the fuel economy is.  I’ve also been delighted with the excellent service I’ve received from Cab Direct since my initial enquiry.

‘From matching the paint colour through to delivery of our new vehicle, everyone went out of their way to help and the level of service was absolutely first class.’
