Dougie McPherson is a self-employed taxi driver and part of the management team for Glasgow Taxis. He’s been in the trade for around 10 years and is on his third cab. Having previously driven a Peugeot E7, that he bought from Cab Direct, he now drives a Ford Procab™. He loves driving his cab around Glasgow and has been pleased with the service he has received from Cab Direct.
Ideal Hackney Taxi
There’s quality in the build – it’s hard to fault
The Ford Procab™ remains a prevalent choice in cities like Glasgow. Built on Ford’s popular Tourneo Custom chassis, ProCab™ provides a wealth of equipment, space and safety technology, making it the ideal hackney taxi. Features including a ready-calibrated taxi meter, quick release door system, high-impact protection partition screen and driver-controlled remote door locking make it a great taxi for city centre driving. Dougie commented: “ProCab™ is an attractive option – hybrids are too expensive with some of them coming in at 60k!” and “There’s quality in the build – it’s hard to fault.”
The cab has a great presence on the road with its new front grille, alloy wheels and smart taxi graphics kit. Inside you’ll find it’s got lots of great features including automatic headlights, air conditioning and heated front seats. The interior technology and safety features are great with 8” colour TFT touchscreen, satellite navigation, voice-activated connectivity, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking sensors.
ProCab™ can accommodate up to eight passengers with its six-seat rear compartment. Up-front you can opt for a single/double seat or you can replace the front passenger seats with a front luggage pen – the latter being a requirement in Glasgow City Council. In fact, it’s our roomiest ever hackney with a huge 1180 litre boot. Dougie explained: “ProCab™ is a good-looking cab with a spacious passenger cabin. Most of my passengers comment on how comfortable and spacious it is!”
Not only is there plenty of space in the back for passengers, ProCab™ also features our EasyGlide™ under-floor wheelchair ramp that’s easy to use. The bench in the rear cabin can also slide forward or back for improved accessibility. For wheelchair passengers, there are self-retracting wheelchair tie-downs, and a lap and diagonal three-point seat belt. Twin electric side steps and high-visibility grab handles help passengers safely enter and exit the taxi.
The Ford Procab™ is a comfortable, well-appointed taxi that’s pleasant to spend the day in
Dougie likes the fact that the passenger door is still manual although lots of other cabs have gone automatic. He added: “The foldable seats are well designed for my passengers and the access ramp is so easy to use!”
Dougie concluded: “The Ford Procab™ is a comfortable, well-appointed taxi that’s pleasant to spend the day in. I would highly recommend Cab Direct.”
