Every year on the second Tuesday in June, many Edinburgh taxi drivers donate their time and money to treat some of the capital’s children to a day at the seaside.
The trip is organised and funded by the cabbies and gives a day out to the beach for children with special needs, life-limiting conditions and terminal illnesses.
Peugeot E7 Taxi Wins Best Float
As always a big effort is made by the drivers to decorate their cabs with balloons or even as floats. The day kicked off at 10am at Murrayfield where the festooned taxis gathered for judging and presentations before setting off for the day.
This year’s worthy winner of best float was John Galloway who had decorated his Peugeot E7™ taxi as Mr Potato Head. John completed his Toy Story theme by dressing up as Woody, much to the delight of the kids.
Best balloon taxi went to Ian Mathieson who had adorned his Mercedes-Benz M8™ from bumper to boot in red, green and white balloons.
Send off
As usual the drivers were sent off by the city’s Lord Provost. From Murrayfield the cabs make their way, in convoy, and with a police escort through Edinburgh and along the East Lothian coast to the beach where they spend the rest of the day.
Armed with water pistols and water balloons, the day is full of fun for the children as they delight in soaking the public and the odd unsuspecting copper along the way.
