Last week Glasgow was host to a wonderfully successful Homeless World Cup, held in the city’s George Square.
The world tournament was launched in 2001, with the aim of using inspiring homeless people to change their lives through the power of a sport.
With over 500 men and woman across 52 countries taking part, the streets of Glasgow were bustling with participants and spectators soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Every match has been a corker, with penalty shoot-outs and cracking goals aplenty, warm hugs and handshakes and stands packed with fans cheering on their native and adopted teams.”

Cab Direct co-owner, Gerry Facenna, was happy to step in and do what he could after being announced as Mexico’s new Honorary Consul for Scotland.
Teaming up with Glasgow’s largest operator of licensed taxis, Glasgow Taxis, Cab Direct provided a fleet of E7™ taxis to transport the Mexican teams to Celtic Park for a special tour arranged by the club.
The Celtic FC Foundation is highly involved in the global community and has developed a partnership with Mexican football club, Santos Laguna.
Mr Facenna commented: “I was delighted to see the Mexican teams in Glasgow and very happy to be able to help them make the most of their trip to Scotland.”
Double Win for Mexico
Both Mexico’s men’s and women’s teams came to Glasgow as reigning Homeless World Champions.
In the finals on Sunday, Team Mexico was again crowned double-winners after both the men’s and women’s teams held onto their championship titles.
Event organisers commented: “The pinnacle was the final day with the two cup competitions being played out before a packed house.
“Women’s Homeless World Cup holders Mexico overcame challengers Kyrgyzstan to retain the trophy in a 5-0 thriller, whilst their men’s team also put in a powerful performance to see off Brazil, 6-1 and keep the silverware.”
