A group of London cabbies made their way to Disneyland Paris to take sick children on a ‘holiday of a lifetime’.
The ‘Magical Taxi Tour’ embarked on its 25th visit with a convoy of black cabs. They made their way from London, with an army of youngsters filled with excitement for the three-day trip.
The unique charity event takes place each year, with the amazing convoy of taxis transporting over 200 children suffering from a range of chronic debilitating illnesses and life limiting conditions. The kind-hearted taxi drivers use their own time and vehicles to make sure the event goes ahead each year.
Generous Donations Fund Extraordinary Event
The three-day trip is organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers and fully funded by donations. The extraordinary event is only possible with the help of sponsors who kindly provide towards the £1,250 required for each taxi to meet the costs of accommodation, fuel, food and admission charges.
The convoy of taxis can stretch to over three miles long and consists of City of London Police escorts, Gendarmerie Nationale, London Ambulance NHS Trust and AA breakdown trucks alongside the taxis.
Disney Dreams for Special Kids
The special event has been created to give sick children enjoyment and some time away from therapy and treatments. Medical teams escort the families as without them accompanying, the travel would not be possible.
The trip is being documented on the Magical Tour Facebook group as the taxis make their way from the UK to France, gathering support and making it a memorable experience.
One supporter commented: “Just seen 100 taxis for the Magical Taxi Tour drive past. Great to see such an amazing charity. Have a great time in Paris!”
The Magical Taxi Tour brings moments of great joy and happiness to sick children and continues its 25th visit to give more children this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Hats off to the cabbies who take part in this wonderful event. Are you involved in something similar or raise money for charity on your own through taxiing? Let us know on our Facebook page or Twitter feed and we’ll spread the word.
