A kind-hearted taxi driver has been hailed a hero after helping save the life of a great-grandmother.
82-year-old Eileen O’Brien, booked a private hire cab via Village Taxis, after attending a fun night on Easter Sunday at her local British Legion.
On arrival at her home in Garston, Liverpool, the driver waited until he could see that Ms O’Brien was safely in her home. After several minutes, the concerned driver didn’t see the lights come on, so he went to investigate.
The driver found Ms O’Brien lying in the garden after suffering a painful fall. He immediately called for help and waited with her until the ambulance arrived.
It’s believed that had the driver not waited and checked on her whereabouts, the situation could have been a lot worse.
Ms O’Brien’s son, John, commented: “My mum lives in a cul-de-sac and it’s quite dark with a four-foot fence in the front garden. When he didn’t see the lights go on he found her fallen over and collapsed in absolute agony by the garden gate.”
Thanks to Village Taxis
Ms O’Brien suffered a broken hip as a result of her fall and her son can’t thank Village Taxis enough.
He said: “It was dark and with it being a cul-de-sac you don’t always get people walking past. I think if she had been left there overnight, she wouldn’t have survived.
“We always use Village Taxis and she was picked up and dropped off at her home and the driver actually waited to make sure she got in the house safely.”
John intends to drop off a card and a ‘bottle of something nice’ for the driver at Village Taxis to let him know how much he appreciates his kind efforts.
Another case of the cab trade playing a huge part in the community – well done to the driver of Village Taxis. Don’t forget to like our Facebook and Twitter pages to keep up to date with all the latest taxi news.
