London taxi drivers brave the cold to support charity

A group of London taxi drivers has got down to the bare essentials in a bid to support an anti-violence charity.

Cabbies always like to have something to say but a new calendar, featuring twelve London cabbies, shows the trade in a whole new light!  The idea was conceived by GetTaxi, which recently launched a new Smartphone application that allows customers to book a taxi direct from their mobile phone.

Big Hearted Cabbies

Cabbies are well known for doing their bit to support good causes.  Nevertheless it came as something of a surprise when hundreds of taxi drivers put themsevles forward in reponse to an invitation to bare all.  And with only a street sign to hide their modesty, not a lot has been left to the imagination!

The ‘Calendar Cabbies’ hope to raise thousands of pounds for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust - a charity that aims to campaign, educate, and support people to help reduce the risk of violence and aggression.

Tony Habberley, one of the twelve cabbies selected from the hundreds who nominated themselves, said: "The most I’d ever done before this was posing for the odd family picture and I’d definitely never got my kit off in public.”

Tony quips: "We couldn’t have picked a colder day for it either, which didn’t help for more than one reason.

"I was pretty nervous to start but I’m proud to have taken part and to have done my bit for charity  - now I’ll have to just wait and see if any of my passengers recognise me with my clothes on!”

The calendar is available to buy now on the GetTaxi website for £3.00.  Neal Fullman, the company’s CEO, said: “Our safer taxi initiatives are aimed at women and our drivers wanted to do their bit for charity, so what better way to capture female attention than a calendar featuring our good looking guys who are clearly willing to go to any lengths for a great cause.”
