Popular Liverpool cab driver Bernie Buxton was one of the “extraordinary ordinary people” selected to carry the Olympic torch one mile on its epic 8,000 mile journey across the UK. Bernie drove his taxi direct to the start of his mile journey.
Well-known Bernie was nominated to carry the torch for his involvement in charity work for the Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing Fund. Speaking before his part in the rely, Bernie said: “I’m very grateful to the people who nominated me and it shows me that we are doing something right. Despite the fact I’m not sporty, I’m over the moon that I will be carrying the Olympic flame”.
Not taking a moments rest, Bernie was doing his part for charity again by transforming his cab into a Jubilee photo booth.
In return for a £1 donation, delighted customers were treated to a free photograph with friends and family in Bernie’s taxi which was decorated with vintage union flag upholstery and cushions. All donations are going towards this year Liverpool Taxi Drivers’ Children in Care Outing Fund.
Kind hearted Bernie said: “We were delighted to be asked to join the Jubilee campaign. The charity has been going for many years and is a very worth while cause”.
On behalf of everyone at Cab Direct, we are delighted at Bernie’s recent achievements. Well done Bernie!
