Taxi operators in Skegness are hoping for a change of heart on rank policy.

Hope for Skegness Taxi Rank

03/03/2010

Taxi drivers Darrell Blackburn and Dave Aldred are fighting the case for cabbies in Skegness, questioning the Town Council's management committee regarding all-day use of a rank on the town’s seafront at a recent meeting.

Mr Aldred said: "I can't work out why East Lindsey District Council and Skegness Town Council object to the rank on the seafront outside the Embassy being used 24 hours.  The Council says it causes obstruction to the car park near the lifeboat station, yet the disabled can park there all day.

"Coaches also park on the double yellow lines there all day long. I thought it was policy they were supposed to take people down to the coach park to drop off?"

Frustration among drivers has been mounting, alongside the number of taxis, due to the lack of action to increase the number of rank spaces.

The Skegness Standard reported that Councillor Phil Kemp has since agreed that taxi rank provision is a problem and that the council should look into it.
